Hello, my name is Rachel. I am so glad you are here checking us out.
What are we? Out of the Nest is the end result of a passion I have had for a while now. I had a dream years ago to create a resource for the Blue Mountains that informs and empowers, as well as connects the community. So, I hope you find inspiration and encouragement while you are here.
A bit about me. I am lucky to have found a wonderful life partner in my husband of 19 years (yes, we were young), who complements my weaknesses pretty perfectly–and I’d like to think I do the same for him! We are parents to 4 gorgeous little ones, 10, 7, 5 and 2. So, life is full; full of love, full of stress, and, most importantly, full of coffee!
I am very much a part of this community. I am a local resident and love raising my children here in the beautiful Blue Mountains. My favourite colour is and always has been Pink and my addiction to chocolate is very real. And–while it is corny to say–my family, my friends, and my faith are the most important things in my life. Cliché but true. I am a practising midwife and registered nurse, which is a career I found in large part due to my desire to meet needs and support people. That said, I am no saint, just really quite sensitive. But I am choosing to see that as a strength. Out of the Nest, I believe, was born of that same desire.
So what does the name mean?
The Nest. It’s a place where we gestate, nurture, and also launch our young. It represents a significant season of life as we help to shape our young children. As a mother myself, and a midwife who observes other mothers, I constantly see the obstacles that stop us enjoying this season. These obstacles keep us isolated and sometimes make us completely confused. My heart and passion for this site is to provide a place that resources you and helps you to resolve some of issues.
Not only that, it’s a place that creates connection–online and also in the real world. It’s a place that aims to empower and equip you to be your best you; and it’s a place that will hopefully help you locate the many resources available around the Mountains. I truly believe that a strong family creates a strong community, but it starts with us being inspired to build the family we envision. My heart is that you find that here.
