Winter is Upon us…Are you ready?

Are you ready to keep warm?

Are you ready for cold and flu season? While I don’t wish to speak sickness over my family,I do want to be ready should it sneak into our home. These are just some ideas that I do as well as ideas that I wish I did 🙂

Not making recommendation of products or brands here, merely things to think about and look into should you be inspired to.

Things I Make:

I like to have essential oil rollers for my kids that they apply themselves (diluted appropriately with carrier oil). It’s around this time that I make sure the rollers are well topped up with an oil for immune support.

I also have a diffuser in each Childs room and I make sure I have oils ready to go in there for respiratory and sleep support.

I like to make up a chest rub with coconut oil mixed with some Lavender and Eucalyptus oils ready for when a cough or congestion comes our way.

Having a meal or 2 frozen ‘just in case’. For us having some frozen bolognase that can be added to pasta, burritos or nachos. For the same reason I usually have a box of tiny teddies on hand. If I am sick I can make my peace with tiny teddies being lunch.

I like to get a bit better at making my green smoothies. I say this every year though and I am yet to create a great habit with it. Bone broth, maybe this year I will be better at that too.

Things I Buy:

My kids don’t love vegetables as much as I would love for them to. I do like to invest in a bit of a supplement this time of year.

Tissues and toilet paper stocked.

Socks, beanies, gloves, scarves… does everyone have some that fit (because you just know their heads are twice as big as last winter)???

If I haven’t already- do they all have warm shoes, pants and a coat that fits.

Do I need extra blankets? Perhaps a child has transitioned to a new bed- that when it sneaks up on you right?

If you have a fireplace, do you have enough wood ready?

Is there some Panadol and Nurofen in the cupboard…check that it is in date. I also like to have some throat lollies on hand, for kids as well as adults. I am not one to run for pharmaceutical management as first line management, but also hate doing a pharmacy run of an evening if I do happen to require them.

Things I think ahead about:

Do you have someone on hand to pick the kids up should you need them to? It is good to have had this discussion with someone and even had a go at then kids going inter car- so it is easier when you need to action that plan.

Things like Laundry can quickly pile up when you or the kids are sick, do you have enough to get you by?

Do your kids have the appropriate bedding to keep them warm, do you need to add blanket, change to warmer sheets?

Do you need to move up to the next size or Tog sleeping bag for Bub?

Do you need to add heating?

Do you need to pull the electric blanket out of the linen cupboard?

These are just a few of the things on my mental checklist.

I would love to hear some of your suggestions, things that you do.

Hope that serves to inspire or perhaps remind you to think ahead.

Much Love,

Rachel xx
